Roses, Thorns, and a Little Bit of Fire: Embracing the Beautiful Dysfunction

By Angel, Founder of AMC Rise and Thrive

Hey radiant soul 🌙

Let me be real with you today. No fluff. No filters. No pretending.

I know I’ve said this before—but it’s worth repeating:

I don’t always have it together. Honestly? Sometimes I’m what you might call a little… dysfunctional. I don’t move how people expect. I don’t follow the “normal” path. My rhythm is mine. Sometimes it’s graceful. Sometimes it’s chaotic. But it’s always authentic.

If that resonates with you—you’re not alone. You’re in good, gritty, soul-deep company.

I’m Not for Everyone—And That’s Okay

I don’t process the world like most people. I think deeper. I feel harder. I notice everything. Which means I often internalize more than I show.

On the outside, I might seem calm, collected—even serene. But on the inside? I’m sometimes one eye-roll away from saying something that’ll hurt your feelings. Some days I’m a monk. Some days I’m a wildfire.

That doesn’t make me fake—it makes me human.

Don’t let the soft words or healing vibes fool you—I’ve got layers. And depending on the day, you might meet the sweet nurturer… or the storm.

Some days I radiate light. Some days I wrestle with shadows.
That’s not dysfunction. That’s duality.

The Myth of “Love and Light” 24/7

Here’s what I wish more people understood:

Being spiritual doesn’t mean being soft or weak. It doesn’t mean floating above every emotion with incense in hand and a permanent smile.

That’s not spirituality—that’s spiritual bypassing.

Real growth means owning all of it: the chaos and the calm, the healing and the hurt, the love and the limits. It’s about feeling your emotions without becoming them.

When I’m off—I don’t fake it. I feel it. I usually pull away to reset.

I breathe.
I journal.
I pray.
I ground myself.

But let me be clear—I don’t let people cross my boundaries and then act surprised when I push back.

Just because someone is on a healing journey doesn’t mean they’re a doormat.

Sometimes, the most spiritual thing you can do is:

  • Set a boundary
  • Speak your truth
  • Walk away
  • Or yes—clap back with grace and fire when necessary

We Are All Dual

You were never meant to be just one thing.

You are the rose and the thorn. The sun and the storm. The healer and the hurricane.

You are allowed to be soft and strong. Nurturing and assertive. Glowing in your light and still exploring your shadows.

That doesn’t make you broken. That makes you whole.

The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is awareness.

When You’re Feeling Off

So, what do you do on those days when you feel like a fire-breathing dragon in yoga pants?

You breathe.
You acknowledge it.
You feel it—without shame.

You don’t have to hide your fire—but you don’t need to burn everything down either. Let your emotions rise, but don’t let them take the wheel.

Yes, you can feel edgy. Yes, you can want to scream into a pillow.

And still—you are worthy.
You are divine.
You are becoming.

You don’t need to fix yourself. You’re not broken. You’re unfolding.

🕊️ Word from the Word

“Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent.”
Psalm 4:4 (ESV)

Feel what you feel. Own it. But don’t become it.
Let your anger, your tension, your fire rise—and then let it settle.
You are the observer of your emotions—not their prisoner.

🌟 Affirmation of the Day

“I embrace all parts of me—light and shadow, calm and chaos. I am beautifully whole, even when I’m a little out of sync.”

Repeat it.
Breathe it in.
Let it anchor you.

🎵 Why I Chose This Song

“Dysfunctional” by Tech N9ne (Explicit)
🎧 ListenHere

Let’s be real—this track hits. Hard. And sometimes, we need that.

I chose “Dysfunctional” because it’s raw. It’s gritty. It’s unapologetic.
It doesn’t pretend to be polished. It doesn’t mask the mess. It owns it.

The energy of this song speaks to the part of me that’s tired of pretending to be okay when I’m not. It gives me permission to be fully real—even if it’s messy. Even if it makes other people uncomfortable.

Sometimes, authenticity looks like chaos wrapped in clarity.
Sometimes, thriving looks like surviving—but loud.
Sometimes, your healing includes heavy beats and hard truths.

Even if others don’t get your mood, your method, or your moment—you’re not here to be understood. You’re here to be true.

And this song? It reminds me that you can still rise—even when you’re a little dysfunctional.

So, if you’re feeling off today—a little raw, a little rebellious, a little misunderstood—remember:

You are allowed to be layered.
You are allowed to be emotional.
You are allowed to be fire.

Just don’t let the chaos pull you so far from your center that you forget your peace.

Your softness is sacred. But so is your strength.
Your grace matters. But so does your grit.

With grace, grit, and a little fire,
