Honoring the Aunts, Second Mothers, and Phenomenal Women Who Shape Us

By Angel, Founder of AMC Rise and Thrive

Hello beautiful soul 💛

Today, I want to pause and honor the women who quietly hold us together when life feels heavy—the aunts, the second mothers, the mentors, and the phenomenal women who empower rather than compete.

This is not about those who tear down or gossip behind someone’s back. No, this is about the women who stand tall, rooted in love, and who lend their strength to those around them—sometimes without even realizing how much they are giving.

I often say:

“Girls compete. Women empower.”

And it’s true. I am careful about who I allow access to my heart and my energy. Over the years, I’ve learned that the women I choose to walk alongside are strong, wise, and brimming with potential they don’t always see in themselves. Their love and resilience have left marks on my journey that I carry with me every single day.

🌿 The Quiet Strength of Women

Strength doesn’t always announce itself. It doesn’t always look like bold speeches, flashy confidence, or visible triumphs. Sometimes it shows up in quiet, unseen acts that most people will never notice.

Some women display their strength in visible battles—fighting cancer, walking through grief, or rebuilding their lives after devastating loss. They show us what it means to endure hardship with courage and to face pain with unwavering faith.

Other women reveal their power in subtler ways—raising children with love and patience, keeping faith alive in the middle of financial struggle, or offering a listening ear when your situation feels bigger than you can hold.

Strength doesn’t always roar. Sometimes it whispers through steady presence. Sometimes it looks like holding space for another soul who feels fragile. Sometimes it’s just showing up when showing up is the hardest thing to do.

These women remind me daily that true strength isn’t about noise or spotlight. It’s about courage in the small, faithful acts that shape lives more deeply than words ever could. It’s about choosing love again and again, even when love costs you something.

💎 The Women Who Shaped Me

When I think back on my journey, I can see the fingerprints of strong women all over my story.

There were aunts who reminded me of my worth when the world tried to convince me otherwise. There were mentors who believed in me before I could even see my own gifts. There were friends who stood by me in seasons when I felt like I had nothing left to give—and yet, they didn’t let me give up.

These women were not perfect, but they were present. And their presence became a kind of ministry—teaching me resilience, compassion, and the quiet art of rising again.

Sometimes we underestimate how deeply someone’s encouragement plants seeds in our spirit. A single word, a hand on your shoulder, or a simple, “I believe in you,” can echo for years, reshaping the way we see ourselves.

Their love and strength built a foundation for me to stand on. But as I reflect, I also recognize something important:

Although I need these women in my life, I also had to learn to be my own backbone.

That was a hard but necessary truth to face. If I don’t do for myself, I can’t expect others to carry me endlessly. It’s not unkind—it’s reality. These phenomenal women helped me, yes, but at some point I had to step into my own authority, my own strength, my own voice.

🔑 Becoming Your Own Backbone

It can feel easier to lean on others for every ounce of support, especially when we’re weary. But life has shown me that if you never strengthen your own legs, you’ll never stand tall.

Part of honoring the women who poured into us is carrying their lessons forward by embodying them ourselves.

Your aunt who prayed for you—she taught you the power of intercession.
Your mentor who believed in your gifts—she taught you to believe in yourself.
Your friend who sat with you in the dark—she taught you the beauty of presence.

To honor them is not only to thank them, but to become a reflection of what they modeled. At some point, you must decide: “I will be my own backbone. I will rise, not just because of them, but also because of me.”

This is not independence that rejects community. It is maturity that recognizes community is strongest when each member brings their whole self to the table.

👑 Remembering Our Royal Identity

There’s a line in the song I’m sharing today that speaks directly to this truth:

“To all of the queens who are fighting alone
Baby, you're not dancin' on your own.”

🎶 Song of the Day: “Kings and Queens” by Ava Max
Listen here

The lyrics remind us that we are all queens—or kings—with royalty in our very blood. It is not arrogance; it is divine inheritance. We were created with worth and dignity, and that identity deserves to be honored.

The phenomenal women in my life have modeled this truth for me: that you don’t have to fight for a crown you were already born with. You simply have to wear it. And sometimes, you need other women to remind you it’s still resting on your head.

But this royal identity isn’t just symbolic—it’s spiritual. To know you are royalty is to know you were designed with divine intention. To wear your crown is to live in alignment with God’s vision for you, not the world’s limitations.

🕊 A Word from the Word

Scripture reminds us of the strength and dignity woven into the very fabric of who we are:

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”
— Proverbs 31:25 (NIV)

This verse captures the essence of the women I honor today. They may not always feel strong, but their lives radiate a quiet, steady dignity that uplifts those around them.

Notice that the verse doesn’t say, “She feels strong” or “She tries to be strong.” It says she is clothed in strength and dignity. In other words, it is part of her spiritual wardrobe. Even in moments of fear or weakness, that strength and dignity are still hers—because they were given, not earned.

That is the truth I see reflected in the phenomenal women around me: strength woven into their spirits like threads of divine fabric.

Affirmations to Honor and Empower

As you read this, I invite you to speak these truths over yourself and the women who have shaped your journey:

  • I honor the women who have poured strength into me.
  • I am grateful for the mentors, mothers, and aunts who lifted me up.
  • I recognize the royalty within me—I am clothed in strength and dignity.
  • I choose to surround myself with women who empower, not compete.
  • I, too, carry the power to uplift, encourage, and inspire.
  • I am both a recipient of love and a vessel of love for others.
  • I embrace the divine inheritance of strength and worth that is mine.

💌 A Word for You

If you’ve ever doubted your strength, let this be your reminder: you are not weak. You are not overlooked. You are not without worth.

Whether your role is seen or unseen, your presence matters more than you realize. The love you pour out is not wasted. The resilience you carry is not invisible.

And to the women who shaped me—thank you. Your example reminds me daily that empowerment is not about spotlight, but about legacy. And you are leaving one more radiant than you know.

To you reading this: you carry that same potential. You may not feel like it. You may wonder if you have what it takes. But the truth is, strength is already in you. Sometimes it takes life to reveal it. Sometimes it takes women around you to draw it out. And sometimes it takes you choosing to rise, again and again, even when it’s hard.

So, wear your crown, beloved. Honor the women who reminded you it was yours. And never forget: the same light they carried is now burning in you.

With gratitude for the women who empower,

Angel
