The Power of Mother Nature: A Kansas City Storm Story
🌪️ The Power of Mother Nature: A Kansas City Storm Story
By Angel, Founder of AMC Rise and Thrive
June 3, 2025, began like any other rainy day in Kansas
City—gray skies, a steady drizzle, and that peaceful, almost meditative mood
that rainy days tend to bring. You know the kind: the gentle tapping of
raindrops on the window, the smell of earth and ozone in the air, and the way
everything seems to slow down just enough to make you notice the little things.
It was cozy. Calm. Comforting.
But sometimes, peace is just the calm before the storm.
As the hours passed, something shifted. Not just in the
weather, but in the energy. If you're sensitive to the spiritual and
natural world, you know what I mean. It’s that inner nudge, a quiet tension in
the air, the kind that brushes against your soul before it touches your skin.
By 2:30 PM, tornado sirens began blaring across the city—long,
low, and haunting. It’s a sound that freezes you for just a second, then kicks
your instincts into gear. For anyone who's lived in Tornado Alley, that wail is
not something you ever take lightly. It means business. It means: pay
attention now.
🌀 The Sky
Can Be Deceiving
Like many Midwesterners—conditioned by a mix of experience and
curiosity—the first thing I did was step outside and look up. The sky wasn’t
ominous yet. No green hue. No low, churning clouds. Just heavy and brooding.
But one of the greatest truths I’ve learned from living here
is this:
The sky doesn’t always show you its hand.
Danger doesn’t always look dangerous. Sometimes, it
disguises itself in stillness. And if you wait too long to act, it’s already
too late.
So I did what I always do—I turned on the local news, flipped
open the radar, and started calling the people I love.
“Are you safe?”
“Do you hear the sirens?”
“Are you in the basement?”
That helpless feeling of waiting, watching colored blobs move
across the screen while texting frantically—it humbles you. It reminds you how
small you really are. And how fragile life is, even on a random Tuesday
afternoon.
🌪️ A Storm
Unfolds
Reports began pouring in. Tornadoes had been spotted—one on
the west side of the city and another sweeping dangerously close to the Truman
Sports Complex. Powerful winds, enough to tip over three semi-trucks, had
already caused chaos on major highways. Downed trees. Broken signs. Water
racing down sidewalks like rivers.
My own backyard had transformed. The ground could no longer
hold the rain.
The grass was hidden beneath swirling water.
My son’s sandbox had become a muddy swimming pool.
The trees swayed like dancers caught in a panic.
Everything felt unsteady—even me.
And let me tell you something about tornadoes:
They aren’t just wind.
They’re spiritual. They’re primal.
They awaken a deep knowing inside of you that there are forces bigger than us,
and all we can do is respect them.
🌧️ A
Memory That Still Lives in Me
This storm wasn't my first. And I’m sure it won’t be my last.
But there’s one storm that lives in my memory more vividly than the rest.
It was 2003.
I was surrounded by loved ones—children, babies, people I
cared for deeply. And we didn’t even have the safety of a full basement. Just a
partial space, barely big enough for all of us. The tornado came within ten
blocks of us. We could hear the wind scream like a living thing. Later, we’d
find out homes nearby had been flattened. Entire blocks changed forever.
That moment changed me, too.
It’s the kind of fear that roots itself in your bones. But
oddly enough, it also brought clarity. It made me more aware of what matters.
It reminded me that safety isn’t just physical—it’s spiritual. I began
to see storms not just as disasters, but as divine teachers.
🌿 What
Mother Nature Teaches Us
Mother Nature is fierce.
She is powerful beyond comprehension.
She is unpredictable, wild, and deeply feminine in her force.
But she is also breathtaking. Sacred. Wise.
She does not ask for permission.
She moves when she’s ready.
And when she does, we have no choice but to listen.
If you ever find yourself standing beneath a sky that’s ready
to open up—whether literally or metaphorically—please hear this:
Be smart. Be prepared. And pray.
Because storms don’t wait. And they don’t discriminate.
But they do invite us to ground down, wake up, and trust something
greater than ourselves.
🕯️ Storms
Aren’t Just in the Sky
There’s a reason I’m writing this now—and not just to share a
Kansas City weather story.
This storm reminded me that there are all kinds of storms.
Some swirl in the sky.
Others rage inside our hearts.
Some come from loss, grief, uncertainty.
Others come in the form of change, of growth, of letting go of what once was.
Whatever storm you’re facing today—emotional, physical,
spiritual—know this:
You are not powerless.
Even when the winds shake your world, there’s a center inside of you that
cannot be moved.
Find it. Anchor into it.
That’s your shelter.
✨
Affirmation:
“I am grounded in faith and wisdom, even when the
winds of life try to shake me. I am safe, I am protected, I am divinely
guided.”
Write this down.
Whisper it aloud when anxiety creeps in.
Speak it over your home.
Let it settle into your bones.
Because sometimes the strongest protection is not a place—but
a presence.
And when you trust in divine guidance, even the wildest storms become a pathway
to peace.
📖
Scripture to Anchor Your Spirit:
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your
God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right
hand."
Let this verse be your lighthouse when visibility is low.
Let it steady your heart when the winds of life pick up speed.

Thoughts from Your Storm-Watching Soul Guide
Storms don’t last forever.
The skies always clear.
The sun always finds its way back through.
But we’re changed in the process.
Maybe a little shaken.
But also stronger. Wiser. And more aware of what truly matters.
So, whether you’re sitting in a rain-soaked city, facing
emotional thunderstorms, or just trying to hold on through uncertain times—know
this:
You’re not alone.
You’re protected.
And there is a calm waiting for you on the other side.
With love, protection, and reverence for the power of the
skies,
