When Life Doesn’t Go as Planned: Sometimes You Have to Change Your Perspective
When Life Doesn’t Go as Planned: Sometimes You Have to Change Your Perspective
By Angel, Founder of AMC Rise and Thrive
🌅 Welcome,
Beautiful Souls
I hope you are all doing well. 🤍
As we step into the weekend, there is something beautiful
about having a little space to breathe.
The week may have asked a lot from you. Maybe you handled
everything that needed to be handled. Maybe you are exhausted. Maybe something
happened that you are still trying to process. Or perhaps you are simply
grateful that you made it to Friday and can finally exhale.
The weekend can be a little reset button.
A chance to put down some of what you've been carrying and
prepare yourself for whatever the next week may bring.
And sometimes, that preparation isn't about making a perfect
plan.
Sometimes it is about changing the way we look at what is
already in front of us.
Because life is going to happen.
Some of it will be beautiful. Some of it will be confusing.
Some of it will feel completely unfair. And every now and then, life will hand
us something we never saw coming.
We cannot control all of that.
But we can choose how we meet it.
And sometimes, the thing that changes isn't the situation
itself.
It's our perspective. 🌱
💛 When
Life Gives You Something You Didn't Expect
We all experience difficult seasons.
That isn't necessarily the message we want to hear, but it is
the truth.
There will be moments when plans fall apart. Relationships
change. People disappoint us. Opportunities disappear. Doors close.
Circumstances shift. Something we prayed would happen doesn't happen—or
something we desperately hoped wouldn't happen does.
And when that happens, our first instinct can be to ask:
"Why is this happening?"
"What am I supposed to do now?"
"How am I going to get through this?"
Sometimes we immediately assume that because something is
difficult, it must also be bad.
But those two things aren't always the same.
Something can be difficult without being the end of your
story.
Something can hurt without destroying you.
Something can change without meaning everything has gone
wrong.
And sometimes, something that looks like one thing from where
we are standing can look completely different once we have had time to step
back and see the bigger picture.
That doesn't mean we should pretend painful things aren't
painful.
There is a difference between changing your perspective and
denying reality.
You don't have to convince yourself that everything is
wonderful when it isn't.
You don't have to call something a blessing while you are
still crying about it.
You don't have to force yourself to be positive when your
heart needs a moment to acknowledge what hurts.
Perspective isn't pretending.
Perspective is allowing yourself to see that the situation
may contain more than the part you can currently see.
And sometimes that small shift can change everything.
🌱 Why We
Struggle So Much With What We Can't Control
I think one of the hardest things about being human is
accepting that we are not in control of everything.
We can make plans.
We can pray.
We can prepare.
We can make responsible choices.
We can do our best.
And still, life can surprise us.
That can feel terrifying.
Especially when you are someone who likes to understand what
is happening and know what comes next.
We want certainty.
We want guarantees.
We want to know that if we make the right choices, everything
will work out exactly the way we imagined.
But life doesn't always work that way.
Sometimes we have to take the next step without knowing where
the entire road leads.
We've talked before about not needing to be 100% ready
before taking the next step.
And there is another lesson that comes after that one:
Sometimes you have to let what is meant to be
unfold without trying to control every detail.
That doesn't mean becoming passive.
It doesn't mean giving up.
It doesn't mean sitting back and saying, "Whatever
happens, happens."
It means recognizing the difference between what is ours to
carry and what is ours to surrender.
We can control our choices.
We can control how we speak to people.
We can choose whether we respond from fear or wisdom.
We can choose whether we allow disappointment to harden us or
teach us.
But we cannot control every outcome.
And there is freedom in finally accepting that.
🌿 A Moment
That Changed the Way I Looked at Fear
I remember when my mom was sick last year.
She was experiencing one of the most difficult periods of her
leukemia journey.
At one point, she had a headache, and we had a doctor's
appointment. The doctor wanted her to go to the hospital for a brain scan as a
precaution.
So, we went.
And then they found something.
A small brain bleed.
I can still remember the moment.
It felt like suddenly there were twenty people rushing into
the room.
Everything became serious very quickly.
And I remember looking at my mom's face.
There was fear there.
How could there not be?
She was already dealing with so much, and now there was
something else to worry about.
Her platelet count was low, which meant her blood wasn't
clotting the way it should.
There was so much uncertainty in that moment.
And while we were going through the hospital check-in and
everything that came with it, my mind started going somewhere unexpected.
Strokes are common on my mom's side of the family.
So, I started thinking:
What if this hadn't simply been a small brain
bleed?
What if it had actually been a stroke?
And then another thought came.
What if the very health problem that had created so much fear
and difficulty had also prevented something much worse from happening?
Because her blood wasn't clotting properly, perhaps what could
have become something much more serious was instead a small bleed that could be
monitored.
I wasn't trying to convince myself that the situation was
good.
It wasn't.
A brain bleed is frightening.
Watching someone you love go through serious illness is
frightening.
But there was another side to the situation.
And that realization stayed with me.
Sometimes the same circumstance can look completely different
depending on which side of the coin you're looking at.
✨ What If
There Is Another Side to the Story?
We often look at life from one angle.
We see the closed door.
The disappointment.
The diagnosis.
The missed opportunity.
The unanswered prayer.
The relationship that ended.
The plan that didn't work.
And because that is the part directly in front of us, we
assume that is the entire story.
But what if it isn't?
What if there is another side of the coin?
What if something you are calling a setback today eventually
becomes the very thing that redirects you toward something healthier?
What if the delay is giving you time you didn't know you
needed?
What if the closed door is keeping you from walking into
something that wasn't meant for you?
What if the uncomfortable change is making room for growth?
What if something that feels like the end is actually an
interruption before the next chapter?
We don't always get to know the answers immediately.
And honestly, sometimes we may never understand every reason
something happened.
That is where faith becomes so important.
Faith doesn't require us to understand everything.
It asks us to trust God even when our understanding is
incomplete.
There are moments when all we can say is:
"Lord, I don't understand this. But I trust
You to walk with me through it."
That is surrender.
Not weakness.
Not defeat.
Surrender.
🚶 Walking
Forward When You Still Don't Have All the Answers
So, what do we actually do when life feels overwhelming?
First, give yourself grace.
You don't have to figure everything out tonight.
You don't have to have the perfect attitude.
You don't have to know exactly what the next six months will
look like.
Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is simply make it
through today.
Take the next step.
Then the next one.
And then the next.
If something difficult has happened, allow yourself to
acknowledge it.
Ask yourself:
What is actually within my control?
Maybe you can make a phone call.
Maybe you can ask for help.
Maybe you can make a decision you've been avoiding.
Maybe you need to rest.
Maybe you need to pray.
Maybe you need to stop trying to force an outcome that belongs
in God's hands.
And then ask yourself another question:
Is there another way I can look at this?
Not a fake way.
Not a forced-positive way.
A truthful way.
Maybe the situation is still hard—but perhaps you are stronger
than you realized.
Maybe the road is still uncertain—but perhaps you don't need
the entire map.
Maybe something didn't happen the way you wanted—but perhaps
there is still something meaningful that can come from where you are now.
This is where perspective becomes powerful.
You aren't changing the facts.
You're changing the lens through which you see them.
And sometimes that is enough to help you take another step.
🌅 Give
Tomorrow a Chance
One of the most beautiful things about life is that tomorrow
hasn't happened yet.
We can have a terrible Tuesday and still have a beautiful
Wednesday.
We can experience a painful season and eventually find
ourselves standing in a completely different one.
Winter doesn't stay forever.
There is something about nature that reminds us of this over
and over again.
Trees lose their leaves.
Fields become quiet.
The ground becomes cold.
Everything can look still.
And yet beneath the surface, life is continuing.
Then eventually, spring arrives.
Flowers appear.
Trees begin to bud.
The world becomes green again.
The season changed.
And perhaps your life is changing too.
Maybe you are currently in a season that feels barren.
Maybe you're waiting.
Maybe you're healing.
Maybe you're rebuilding.
Maybe you're trying to understand why certain things had to
happen.
Don't assume that because you cannot see growth, nothing is
growing.
Sometimes God is doing His deepest work beneath the surface.
🌱 You
may not see the roots, but that doesn't mean they aren't forming.
So, give yourself permission to see tomorrow as an unopened
door.
You don't know what it holds yet.
And that can be frightening.
But it can also be beautiful.
❤️ A
Gentle Moment of Reflection
Before you move into the rest of your weekend, take a quiet
moment.
You don't need to answer these questions perfectly. Let them
sit with you.
1. What situation in my life am I struggling to
accept right now?
2. What part of this situation is actually within
my control?
3. Is there another honest perspective I haven't
considered yet?
4. What would it look like for me to surrender the
part I cannot control to God?
5. What if tomorrow brings something I cannot see
today?
Sit with those questions.
Take a breath.
And if you pray, bring the questions to God exactly as they
are.
You don't have to make them prettier first.
You don't have to pretend you're stronger than you feel.
Bring the fear.
Bring the confusion.
Bring the disappointment.
Bring the hope.
God can handle all of it. 🤍
🙏 Affirmations
✨ I can
accept what I cannot control and still move forward with faith.
✨ I allow
myself to see beyond the first version of the story.
✨ I trust
that God can bring purpose from circumstances I do not understand.
✨ I give
myself grace while I navigate difficult seasons.
✨ I remain
open to the possibility that something beautiful is still unfolding.
📖
Scripture Reflection
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be
with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou
walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame
kindle upon thee.”
— Isaiah 43:2, KJV
I love that this verse doesn't say we will never pass through
deep waters.
It doesn't say we will never walk through fire.
It says God will be with us when we do.
There is something incredibly comforting about that
distinction.
Faith isn't a promise that life will never become difficult.
Faith is knowing that difficulty does not mean you are
abandoned.
You may be walking through something right now that you would
never have chosen.
You may not understand why it happened.
You may not know how it will end.
But you don't have to walk through it alone.
When life feels overwhelming, remember this verse.
Not as a promise that every difficult circumstance will
immediately disappear, but as a reminder that God's presence can meet you
right in the middle of it.
So, when the waters rise, breathe.
When the road feels uncertain, keep walking.
When you cannot see the next chapter, trust that God can.
Sometimes faith isn't about knowing where you're going.
Sometimes faith is simply knowing Who is walking with you.

🎵 Song of
the Day
“Everything Is Everything” by Lauryn Hill
Today's Song of the Day is Lauryn Hill's “Everything Is
Everything.”
There is something about this song that fits beautifully with
today's conversation about perspective, change, struggle, and allowing life to
unfold.
At its heart, the song carries a message about accepting that
life moves through seasons. There are difficult moments, confusion, setbacks,
and circumstances that may not make sense at the time.
But there is also movement.
There is change.
There is growth.
And there is the reminder that difficult seasons don't last
forever.
The imagery of winter giving way to spring fits especially
well with today's message.
Sometimes we are standing in the middle of winter wondering
why everything feels so still.
We can't see the flowers yet.
We can't see the new growth.
We can't see what is happening beneath the surface.
But that doesn't mean spring isn't coming.
I also love the idea within the song of turning a negative
into a positive picture. Not by pretending the negative didn't happen, but by
recognizing that our experiences can become part of something larger.
That is perspective.
That is growth.
That is learning how to look at life from more than one angle.
So, this weekend, give the song a listen.
Let it play while you take a walk, clean your house, sit
quietly with your coffee, or simply stare out the window for a few minutes.
And as you listen, ask yourself:
What am I seeing from only one side of the coin?
Maybe there is another perspective waiting for you.
🌼 Final
Thoughts
Whatever you are carrying into this weekend, I hope you give
yourself permission to breathe.
You don't have to solve your entire life tonight.
You don't have to understand every unanswered question.
You don't have to force the next chapter into existence.
Let some things unfold.
Let some things rest.
Let yourself heal.
And most importantly, remember that a difficult moment does
not automatically mean you are headed in the wrong direction.
Sometimes life changes because you are changing.
Sometimes a door closes because your path is changing.
Sometimes what looks like a setback is simply something you
will understand differently later.
And sometimes the only thing you can do is take another
faithful step.
So take it.
Slowly.
Honestly.
With grace.
Trust God with the pieces you cannot carry.
And allow yourself to believe that there may still be
something beautiful ahead.
After all, winter does not get the final word.
Spring has a way of finding us. 🌱
May this weekend bring you peace where there has been worry,
clarity where there has been confusion, strength where you have felt tired, and
hope for whatever tomorrow may bring.
And if all you can do right now is take one more step, let
that be enough.
God is still with you.
Keep going.
Keep trusting.
Keep your heart open.
And remember: sometimes the situation doesn't have to change
immediately for your perspective to change everything. 🤍
With love and gratitude,
Angel 🤍
