Grounding Tips for Unbalanced Energy

Grounding Tips for Unbalanced Energy

When Something Inside You Feels Off

Have you ever had one of those days when you could tell something felt different, but you couldn't quite explain what it was?

Maybe you woke up feeling heavy. Maybe your mind has been racing before your feet even touched the floor. Maybe you've been around someone whose energy felt intense, emotional, or simply difficult to sit with. Or perhaps nothing particularly bad happened at all, yet you still feel like you're carrying something you can't name.

If you've ever experienced that, come sit with me for a moment. ☕️

There are days when we don't need another complicated answer. We simply need a moment to come back to ourselves.

Sometimes that means slowing down. Sometimes it means praying. Sometimes it means stepping outside and feeling the earth beneath our feet. And sometimes, especially when we are spiritually sensitive or emotionally overwhelmed, we may feel called to cleanse our space and release what no longer feels like ours to carry.

So today, let's talk about grounding.

Not because you have done anything wrong.

Not because every heavy feeling means something mysterious is happening.

But because there are times when our energy, emotions, thoughts, and spirit can feel scattered—and finding our center can bring a beautiful sense of peace. 🌿

Learning to Recognize When You Need to Ground

Life has a way of pulling us in a hundred directions at once.

You can be physically sitting in your home while your mind is somewhere else entirely. You're thinking about yesterday's conversation, tomorrow's responsibilities, the thing you forgot to do, the person who upset you, the bill that needs to be paid, and the decision you still haven't made.

Your body is here.

Your thoughts are everywhere.

And your spirit may simply be saying, Can we please slow down?

I've experienced those moments myself. There have been times when I could feel that I was not quite myself. I wasn't necessarily sad, angry, or afraid. I just felt…off.

Heavy.

Restless.

Uncentered.

And I've also been around people where you can almost feel the heaviness before they say a word. Their mood may be tense. Their presence may feel emotionally draining. You may leave the interaction wondering why you're suddenly exhausted when you felt perfectly fine beforehand.

Have you ever noticed that?

Have you ever walked into a room and immediately felt different?

Have you ever spent time with someone and needed a little quiet afterward?

Or have you ever had a day when you realized, I need to get myself grounded again?

There is wisdom in recognizing those moments.

We don't always have to understand exactly why we feel something before we can lovingly respond to it.

Sometimes the first step is simply noticing.

When Your Mind, Body, and Spirit Feel Scattered

When your energy feels unbalanced, there can be many layers underneath it.

Emotionally, you may be carrying feelings that haven't had a place to go. Maybe you've been strong for everyone else while quietly pushing your own emotions aside. Maybe you're processing disappointment, grief, frustration, or change.

Mentally, you may simply have too much happening at once.

The mind can become like a room where every television is playing a different channel. One thought is talking about the past. Another is worrying about the future. Another is replaying something someone said three days ago.

And spiritually, you may be moving through a season where you're becoming more aware of what feels nourishing and what feels draining.

That awareness can be beautiful—but it can also feel overwhelming.

When we become more intentional about our inner world, we may notice things we previously ignored. We become aware of how certain environments affect us. We notice how certain conversations leave us feeling. We recognize when our own thoughts are creating tension within us.

This doesn't mean every uncomfortable feeling has a supernatural explanation.

Sometimes you're simply tired.

Sometimes you need food, water, sleep, movement, or a break from your phone.

Sometimes you need to say no.

And sometimes, for those of us who connect with spiritual practices, we may also feel comforted by rituals that help us intentionally release heaviness and return to a sense of spiritual balance.

The important thing is not becoming afraid of your own energy.

Grounding should bring you back to yourself, not make you fearful of everything around you.

You don't need to walk through life constantly wondering what you picked up from someone else.

You can simply learn to notice what you're feeling, care for yourself, pray, release what isn't serving you, and return to peace.

That is a very different posture.

It is not fear.

It is awareness.

What I’ve Learned About Releasing What I Carry

I've had moments in my own life when I could feel that I needed to ground myself.

Sometimes I couldn't point to one specific thing. I simply knew that I had absorbed too much—too many responsibilities, too many conversations, too many thoughts, too many emotions.

And when you've spent a lot of time taking care of other people, it can become surprisingly easy to forget that your own energy needs attention too.

You can become so accustomed to being available that you don't recognize how depleted you've become until your body finally says, Enough.

I've learned that grounding doesn't always have to be some elaborate spiritual experience.

Sometimes it is incredibly simple.

It might be stepping outside and standing barefoot in the grass.

It might be sitting quietly with a cup of tea.

It might be opening a window and allowing fresh air into the room.

It might be praying before bed.

And yes, I also believe in cleansing rituals.

One practice I've used is placing a glass of water near my bed at night. I don't drink the water. Instead, I set an intention and say something simple like:

Please absorb any unnecessary energy that doesn't belong to me.

In spiritual practices and traditions, water is often associated with cleansing, release, renewal, and emotional movement. For me, the value of the ritual is also in the intention behind it—the quiet moment when I acknowledge that I don't need to carry everything into tomorrow.

In the morning, I flush the water away.

It's a small ritual.

But sometimes small rituals matter because they give our spirit a physical action that represents an emotional decision:

I'm releasing this.

Another practice is placing a white bowl beside the bed and filling it with rice. I leave it there for about a week and then throw the rice away.

Again, the ritual is about intention and release.

White can symbolize peace, cleansing, and a fresh beginning. Rice has long held symbolic meaning in many cultures connected with nourishment, abundance, and grounding.

If you try this practice, however, be mindful of children and animals. Rice can spill easily, and if you've ever had to clean scattered rice from places you didn't know rice could reach, you already understand why I'm giving you that warning. 😂

These rituals aren't meant to replace prayer, discernment, emotional healing, or practical self-care.

They're simply tools.

And sometimes a tool becomes meaningful because of the intention we bring to it.

There Is Power in Coming Back to Yourself

There is something beautiful about remembering that grounding isn't about becoming less spiritual.

It is about becoming more present.

We sometimes imagine spiritual growth as constantly reaching upward—toward higher awareness, deeper understanding, greater connection.

But there is also holiness in coming down into the present moment.

Into your body.

Into your breath.

Into the room you're standing in.

Into the life God has placed directly in front of you.

What if grounding isn't about escaping the world around you, but learning how to remain centered while living in it?

What if you don't have to absorb every emotion around you?

What if someone else's storm can exist without becoming your weather?

What if you can care deeply without carrying everything?

That question has changed the way I think about spiritual boundaries.

Jesus showed compassion, but He also withdrew to quiet places.

There were moments when He stepped away from the crowds.

There were moments of prayer.

There were moments of rest.

There is a lesson there for us.

Being loving does not mean being endlessly available.

Being spiritually open does not mean leaving yourself unprotected emotionally.

And being sensitive to the atmosphere around you does not mean you have to become consumed by it.

Sometimes God invites us into stillness because He knows we have been listening to too many voices.

Sometimes the answer isn't another explanation.

Sometimes it is quiet.

Sometimes it is breath.

Sometimes it is prayer.

Sometimes it is putting your bare feet on the earth and remembering that you are here.

Right now.

In this moment.

Held.

Supported.

Still becoming.

Simple Ways to Find Your Center Again

So, what can you actually do when you feel scattered, anxious, heavy, or uncentered?

Start small.

You don't have to perform a dozen rituals or completely change your day.

Try one grounding practice and give yourself permission to be present with it.

🌿 Barefoot Contact

If you have a safe outdoor space, step outside and place your bare feet directly on grass, soil, or sand.

Stand there for a few minutes.

Feel the temperature.

Notice the texture beneath your feet.

Listen to the sounds around you.

Let your attention move away from the endless conversation in your head and toward the physical world beneath you.

🥕 Rooting Foods

Grounding can also begin with the way we care for the physical body.

Consider nourishing yourself with earthy, satisfying foods such as carrots, parsnips, beets, nuts, and whole grains.

There's something comforting about preparing a simple meal and actually sitting down to eat it instead of rushing through it while doing five other things.

Your body deserves your presence too.

🌳 Visualizing Roots

Sit comfortably with both feet on the floor.

Close your eyes.

Take a slow breath.

Imagine roots extending from the soles of your feet deep into the earth.

Picture those roots becoming steady and strong.

With each breath, imagine yourself becoming more settled.

You don't have to force anything.

Simply breathe and imagine yourself anchored.

👀 The 5-4-3-2-1 Method

When your thoughts are racing, bring yourself into the present using your senses.

Name:

5 things you can see.

4 things you can touch.

3 things you can hear.

2 things you can smell.

1 thing you can taste.

This simple exercise can interrupt the cycle of mental spiraling and remind you that this moment is the one you're actually living.

🪨 Balancing Crystals

If crystals are part of your spiritual practice, you may enjoy working with stones traditionally associated with grounding, such as hematite, smoky quartz, or black tourmaline.

Hold one in your hand.

Carry it in your pocket.

Place it somewhere in your space.

Let it serve as a physical reminder of the intention you're choosing: steadiness, protection, calm, or release.

The crystal doesn't have to carry the entire meaning.

You carry the intention.

✍🏽 Creative Release

Sometimes your energy feels scattered because your thoughts have nowhere to go.

Take out a journal and write without editing yourself.

Write the angry sentence.

Write the worried thought.

Write the thing you don't want to admit.

Write the prayer you don't know how to say.

You can also step away from screens and read a physical book for a while.

There is something wonderfully grounding about turning actual pages.

And sometimes your mind doesn't need more information.

It needs somewhere safe to exhale.

A Quiet Moment to Check In With Your Spirit

Before you move on with your day, take a quiet moment.

Put your phone down if you can.

Take a breath.

Let yourself be honest with God.

You might ask yourself:

  • What has been making me feel scattered or emotionally heavy lately?
  • Am I carrying something that I need to release instead of continuing to hold?
  • What environments or conversations tend to pull me away from my sense of peace?
  • What simple grounding practice could I give myself today?
  • Where might God be inviting me to slow down and become more present?

You don't have to answer every question immediately.

Some questions are meant to sit with us.

Let your heart speak.

Let God meet you there.

🙏 Affirmations

I am grounded, centered, and present in this moment.

I release what was never mine to carry.

I can care for others without abandoning myself.

God's peace is greater than the chaos around me.

I am safe to slow down, breathe, and return to myself.

📖 Bible Verse

“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.”
— Psalm 23:3, KJV

I love the simplicity of this verse.

He restoreth my soul.

Not I restore my soul by myself.

Not I have to figure everything out.

Not I must become perfectly balanced before I can have peace.

There is an invitation here to remember where restoration ultimately comes from.

Sometimes grounding practices help us become still enough to recognize what our soul has been trying to tell us.

Maybe you need rest.

Maybe you need boundaries.

Maybe you need to release an old emotion.

Maybe you need to step away from something that has been consuming your attention.

Maybe you simply need to sit quietly and remember that God is still God even when your life feels anything but settled.

The next time you feel scattered, don't immediately judge yourself for it.

Pause.

Breathe.

Pray.

Come back into your body.

Come back into the present.

And ask God to lead you—not just toward where you're going, but toward the kind of peace you can carry with you along the way.

Grounding isn't about controlling every circumstance.

It's about becoming steady enough to respond instead of react.

Today's Song of the Day is “123 affirmations” by Moonlight Scorpio

I firmly believe that affirmations can change your mindset. Our words have power, and sometimes a reset involves you intentionally speaking over your life instead of allowing the loudest thoughts in your mind to have the final word.

Think about how quickly one negative thought can take over your entire mood.

I'm tired.

Nothing is working.

I can't handle this.

Something is wrong.

Sometimes we don't even realize how often we repeat these thoughts because they have become part of our inner conversation.

But what happens when we become just as intentional about speaking something different?

I am grounded.

I am allowed to slow down.

I release what I cannot control.

I am worthy of peace.

God is with me.

Those words may seem simple, but there is something powerful about deliberately choosing what you want to focus your mind and heart on.

That is one reason I love the idea of affirmations as part of a grounding practice. When everything feels scattered, an affirmation gives your mind somewhere peaceful to return.

And sometimes you don't need a complicated answer.

You just need a new thought to hold onto.

🌿 Your Words Can Become an Anchor

Perception is powerful. The way we interpret our experiences can influence how we move through them.

That doesn't mean we should pretend everything is wonderful when it isn't. Affirmations aren't about denying reality or forcing ourselves to smile through pain. They are about reminding ourselves that what we are experiencing is not necessarily the entirety of who we are.

You can be having a difficult day and still say:

I am going to be okay.

You can be uncertain and still say:

I trust that I will be guided.

You can feel emotionally heavy and still say:

I am allowed to release what is weighing me down.

You can be in a season of change and still say:

I am becoming who I am meant to be.

That is the reset.

You're not necessarily changing the circumstance in front of you.

You're changing the conversation you're having with yourself while you're walking through it.

And sometimes that shift is exactly what we need to begin feeling grounded again.

🤍 Try This While You Listen

When you listen to “123 affirmations,” don't just let it play in the background.

Let it become a moment.

Find a comfortable place. Take a few slow breaths. Put your feet firmly on the floor or, if you're able, step outside and feel the earth beneath you.

Then listen.

As the affirmations come through, pay attention to the words that make something inside you pause.

Maybe one particular affirmation speaks directly to something you've been struggling with.

Maybe another reminds you of something you've forgotten about yourself.

Maybe you realize that you've been speaking to yourself much more harshly than you would ever speak to someone you love.

Let the music help you notice.

Then create a few affirmations of your own.

Speak them slowly.

Write them down.

Put them somewhere you'll see them.

Say them in the morning.

Say them before you go to sleep.

Say them when your thoughts begin running away with you.

Because sometimes grounding isn't about finding something outside of yourself.

Sometimes it's about remembering what you already carry within.

Your voice can become an anchor.

Your words can become a reminder.

And your affirmations can help you return to the version of yourself that isn't defined by today's stress, yesterday's disappointment, or tomorrow's uncertainty.

So, press play.

Take a breath.

Let the words meet you where you are.

And give yourself permission to speak something hopeful over your life today. ✨

Sometimes the reset begins with one intentional thought, followed by one intentional word.

🌼 Final Thoughts

Maybe tonight you don't need to fix your entire life.

Maybe you simply need to come home to yourself.

Turn down the noise.

Step outside.

Feel the ground.

Take a breath.

Say a prayer.

Light a candle if that brings you peace.

Write something down.

Release what you can.

And leave the rest with God.

There will always be things you cannot control. There will always be people whose energy you cannot manage. There will always be circumstances that arrive without asking permission.

But you can learn to return to your center.

You can learn to recognize when your spirit needs quiet.

You can learn that boundaries can be loving.

You can learn that rest is not weakness.

And you can learn that you don't have to carry every feeling that enters the room.

Let today be gentle.

Let your home be peaceful.

Let your heart have room to breathe.

And when you feel unbalanced again—and you probably will from time to time—don't see it as failure.

See it as an invitation.

An invitation to pause.

An invitation to listen.

An invitation to return.

And most importantly, an invitation to remember that you don't have to find your way back alone.

May God quiet what has been restless within you, strengthen what has become weary, and guide you gently back toward peace.

May you feel rooted without becoming rigid, open without becoming overwhelmed, and compassionate without forgetting to care for yourself.

And may you remember that sometimes the most powerful step forward is simply standing still long enough to feel where your feet are.

With love and gratitude,

Angel 🤍
