When You Need to Start Over: Giving Yourself Permission to Begin Again
When You Need to Start Over: Giving Yourself Permission to Begin Again
By Angel, Founder of AMC Rise and

🌅 Welcome,
Friend
Come on in and stay awhile. ☕️
Some days, the words come easily. You sit down, open your
computer, and before you know it, your thoughts are spilling onto the page.
And then there are days when you stare at a blank screen and
wonder, What in the world am I supposed to say?
I know that feeling because that is exactly where I found
myself.
I started writing this post three different times. And three
different times, I deleted everything.
Nothing felt right.
The words weren't coming together. My mind felt crowded, my
energy felt low, and honestly, I was just tired.
Sometimes life doesn't give us the peaceful little window of
time we imagined we'd have to rest, reflect, create, or recharge. Sometimes the
weekend that was supposed to restore us leaves us needing restoration even
more.
Maybe you've had one of those weekends too.
Maybe you walked into these last few days already tired. Maybe
someone tested your patience. Maybe plans didn't go the way you hoped. Maybe
you've been carrying responsibilities that don't disappear just because the
calendar says it's a holiday weekend.
And maybe, like me, you're simply exhausted.
If that's where you are today, I want you to know something
before we go any further:
You are allowed to start over.
Not because you failed.
Not because everything suddenly became perfect.
But because every new moment gives us another opportunity to
choose what we do with what comes next. 🌱
💛
Sometimes We Are Simply Worn Down
We don't always recognize how much we're carrying until
something small pushes us over the edge.
It's not necessarily the one thing that breaks our patience.
It's everything that came before it.
The conversations.
The responsibilities.
The appointments.
The unfinished tasks.
The decisions.
The interruptions.
The things we can't control.
The things we wish we could change.
The things we keep thinking about long after they happen.
Eventually, even a person with a good heart, strong faith, and
the best intentions can reach a point where they simply say, I don't have
anything left today.
And there is something important about admitting that.
We sometimes believe that because we're growing spiritually,
we should always be calm.
Because we pray, we should never become frustrated.
Because we trust God, we should never feel overwhelmed.
Because we've done the work, we should have somehow graduated
from difficult emotions.
But that's not how being human works.
You can be doing your best and still have a hard day.
You can love God and still feel frustrated.
You can be grateful for your life and still desperately need a
break.
You can be committed to becoming a better version of yourself
and still have moments when you don't feel particularly balanced.
That doesn't make you a hypocrite.
It makes you human.
Sometimes your spirit isn't asking you to do more.
Sometimes it's asking you to pause.
🌱 My
Weekend Wasn't Exactly Restful
Labor Day weekend is supposed to feel like a little exhale.
A chance to slow down.
A chance to relax.
A chance to recharge before life starts moving again.
But this weekend didn't quite feel like that for me.
My son was having a difficult time, and I found myself feeling
increasingly drained. My patience was being tested, and by the time the weekend
continued into Monday morning, I was still carrying the frustration from
everything that had happened.
I wish I could tell you that I handled it beautifully.
I didn't.
I was exhausted.
And sometimes honesty requires us to say that without
immediately trying to dress it up in a positive message.
I didn't need someone to tell me to simply think positive.
I needed a moment.
So, I stepped away.
I made something for dinner. I tried to reorganize my
thoughts. I stopped trying to force inspiration onto the page.
And eventually, I did something simple.
I hit shuffle on my liked playlist.
🎵 And
that's when today's Song of the Day found me.
I took my music outside, sat in the shade, and listened.
I wasn't trying to solve my entire life.
I wasn't trying to figure out every responsibility waiting for
me.
I just needed to breathe.
And somewhere in that quiet moment, my mind began to settle.
✨ What If
Starting Over Doesn't Mean Starting From Scratch?
As I sat there, I realized how easy it is to carry a difficult
moment long after the moment itself has passed.
Something happens.
We become frustrated.
We say something we wish we'd said differently.
Someone disappoints us.
A situation becomes overwhelming.
And then, even after it is technically over, we keep replaying
it.
We carry it into the next hour.
Then the next day.
Sometimes even longer.
But what if we don't have to?
What if starting over isn't about pretending the difficult
thing never happened?
What if it is about refusing to let yesterday control today?
There is a difference between learning from the past and
living inside of it.
We need the past for wisdom.
We don't need it for a permanent address.
That realization came to me while I was sitting there
listening to my music.
I took a breath and remembered that I don't have to carry
everything by myself.
I can give what is weighing me down to God.
I can acknowledge what happened without allowing it to become
the emotional atmosphere of my entire day.
I can say, Lord, this is too heavy for me. I'm giving it to
You.
And then I can take another breath.
That's surrender.
Not giving up.
Not becoming passive.
Not pretending that responsibilities don't exist.
Surrender is recognizing that I am not God—and therefore I
don't have to control everything.
There is peace in that.
🙏 Giving
God What We Cannot Carry
There are things in life that are ours to handle.
And there are things that we have to place in God's hands.
Knowing the difference can change everything.
We still have responsibilities.
We still have children who need us.
Bills still need to be paid.
Appointments still need to be attended.
Work still needs to get done.
Life doesn't stop simply because we are emotionally tired.
But we don't have to carry every worry as though the entire
outcome depends on us.
That is where faith becomes more than something we say.
Faith becomes a place where we rest.
I can say, God, I have done what I can do today. The rest
belongs to You.
And sometimes that prayer doesn't immediately change the
circumstances.
But it changes the way I stand inside of them.
Maybe that's the beginning we need.
Not a completely different life.
Just a steadier heart.
A little more room to breathe.
A willingness to release the emotional weight of what has
already happened.
A decision to stop punishing ourselves for being tired.
And the courage to believe that tomorrow doesn't have to feel
exactly like today. 🌿
🚶 Walking
Forward One Step at a Time
When we hear the words start over, we may imagine
something dramatic.
A new job.
A new relationship.
A new home.
A completely different life.
But sometimes starting over is much quieter than that.
Sometimes it looks like getting out of bed and deciding not to
carry yesterday into today.
Sometimes it means apologizing.
Sometimes it means forgiving yourself.
Sometimes it means taking a shower, making dinner, opening the
curtains, and allowing yourself to breathe.
Sometimes it means turning off the noise and sitting outside
for a few minutes.
Sometimes it means praying before responding.
Sometimes it means saying, I'm overwhelmed, and I need a
moment.
There is nothing insignificant about those choices.
They are small acts of returning to yourself.
And when God is involved, even a small step can become sacred.
So, if you are facing a difficult season right now, don't make
yourself solve everything at once.
Ask yourself:
What is the next faithful step?
Not the next twenty steps.
Just one.
Maybe today your next step is rest.
Maybe it's having a difficult conversation.
Maybe it's organizing one small part of your life.
Maybe it's asking for help.
Maybe it's releasing guilt.
Maybe it's simply deciding that the mistake you made yesterday
doesn't get to define the person you are becoming.
One faithful step is still movement. ❤️
🌼 You Can
Begin Again Today
There is something beautiful about a blank page.
It doesn't erase what came before it.
It simply gives you somewhere new to write.
That's what I hear in today's song.
The message isn't that the past didn't happen.
The message is that the past doesn't have to be the end of the
story.
God's grace gives us room to begin again.
And maybe that's exactly what someone reading this needs
today.
You don't have to have everything figured out.
You don't have to feel perfectly motivated.
You don't have to wake up tomorrow as an entirely transformed
person.
You just need to be willing to take the next step.
You can be tired and still have faith.
You can be frustrated and still love God.
You can have made mistakes and still be worthy of grace.
You can have lost your focus and find it again.
You can have had a difficult weekend and still choose to make
Monday—or whatever day you're reading this—a new beginning.
Starting over isn't weakness.
Sometimes it is one of the strongest things we can do.
❤️ A
Gentle Moment of Reflection
Before you move on with your day, take a moment to sit quietly
with God.
You don't have to force an answer.
Just breathe.
And ask yourself:
- What
am I still carrying that I need to give to God?
- Am I
holding onto something that has already happened because I am afraid to
let it go?
- What
would beginning again look like for me today?
- What
is one small, faithful step I can take instead of trying to fix everything
at once?
- Where
do I need God's peace more than I need my own control?
You don't have to answer every question immediately.
Let them sit with you.
Sometimes clarity comes when we stop demanding that it arrive
on our schedule.
🙏
Affirmations for Beginning Again
I release what I cannot change and trust God with what comes
next.
I am allowed to begin again without carrying shame from
yesterday.
My difficult moments do not define the whole story of my life.
God gives me strength for the steps in front of me.
Today is another opportunity to choose peace, faith, and hope.
📖 Bible
Verse
“Remember ye not the former things, neither
consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring
forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and
rivers in the desert.”
— Isaiah 43:18–19, KJV
There are moments when starting over feels impossible because
we're still looking at what happened yesterday.
We're replaying the conversation.
Thinking about the frustration.
Wishing we had responded differently.
Wondering how we're going to handle everything waiting for us
tomorrow.
But God invites us to look forward.
That doesn't mean forgetting the lessons of the past. It means
refusing to let the past become the only thing we can see.
“Behold, I will do a new thing.”
Those words carry so much hope.
A new thing doesn't always arrive as a dramatic change.
Sometimes God begins something new quietly, right in the middle of an ordinary
day. A change in perspective. A renewed sense of peace. A little more patience.
A decision to surrender what we've been trying so hard to control.
And I love that God says He will make a way in the wilderness.
Because sometimes that's exactly what life feels like—a
wilderness.
We don't know which direction to go. We can't see very far
ahead. We're tired from trying to figure everything out.
But not being able to see the way doesn't mean there isn't
one.
God can make a way where we couldn't see one before.
So maybe starting over today doesn't require us to know what
tomorrow looks like.
Maybe it simply requires us to trust the One who already sees
it.
Take the next breath.
Say the prayer.
Release what happened.
And make room for the new thing God may be bringing forth. 🌱
🎵 Song of
the Day
“Start Over” by FLAME feat. NF
Sometimes the right song finds us at exactly the right moment.
That's what happened to me.
I wasn't sitting at my computer with some perfectly formed
message waiting to be written. I was struggling to find the words at all.
So, I stepped away, went outside, sat in the shade, and
pressed shuffle.
And this song came on.
The message of “Start Over” speaks about the
possibility of beginning again even after regret, mistakes, disappointment,
weakness, and difficult seasons. At the heart of it is the reminder that Jesus
offers grace, freedom, peace, and a clean slate through faith.
That hit differently while I was sitting there.
Because I wasn't thinking about some huge life mistake.
I was thinking about something much more ordinary.
I was stressed.
I was frustrated.
I was tired.
I wasn't handling everything perfectly.
And I needed to remember that one difficult stretch doesn't
have to determine what happens next.
Sometimes we need a reminder that we can stop carrying
yesterday on our shoulders.
We can give it to God.
We can breathe.
We can get back up.
And we can start again.
So, wherever you are today, take a few minutes to listen to
the song.
Let the music meet you where you are.
And while you listen, ask yourself:
What would I feel lighter without carrying?
Maybe that's the thing you're ready to place in God's hands.
🌅 Final
Thoughts
As I finish writing this, I can honestly say I feel a little
better than I did when I first sat down.
Nothing magically disappeared.
There are still things that need to be done.
There are still responsibilities waiting for me.
There are appointments on the calendar, another school day
approaching, and plenty of life still moving around me.
But something inside me shifted.
I remembered that I don't have to carry the entire day before
I've even lived it.
And neither do you.
Maybe today didn't begin the way you wanted.
Maybe yesterday was messy.
Maybe this weekend wasn't restful.
Maybe you lost your patience.
Maybe you became overwhelmed.
Maybe you simply reached your limit.
Give yourself permission to breathe.
Give yourself permission to come back to center.
And most importantly, give yourself permission to begin again.
God's grace isn't waiting for you at some imaginary finish
line.
His love meets you right where you are.
So, release what happened.
Learn what you need to learn.
Give God what you cannot carry.
Then look toward what comes next.
There is still a blank page in front of you.
And you don't have to know exactly how the story will unfold.
You only have to be willing to pick up the pen.
Start over.
Start with faith.
Start with grace.
Start with one breath.
Start with one prayer.
Start with one faithful step.
And trust God with the rest. 🤍
May God steady your heart when life feels heavy, give you
peace when your mind feels crowded, and remind you that yesterday does not have
the final word over your life.
May you have the courage to release what is behind you, the
wisdom to learn from it, and the faith to walk toward what God is still
writing.
And when you need to begin again, may you remember:
It is not too late.
With love and gratitude,
Angel 🤍
