A Dog Named Blue: A Story of Love, Loyalty, and Fate

💛 A Fated Beginning

Hello, beautiful soul,

Today marks a special moment — my dog Blue turns 8 years old. It’s incredible how time weaves stories into our lives, especially ones written by paws and pure love. Blue’s story began just 12 days after I lost my beloved dog Leo — a loss that shattered my heart. I wasn’t ready for another dog. But love had other plans.

Leo wasn’t just a pet. He was family. Protector. Soul companion. I felt it would be wrong — maybe even impossible — to open my heart again. But as the universe often does, it nudged me gently. And that’s how Blue found me.

🌟 The Search for Something More

My husband and I returned from a trip to Florida and began to wonder aloud — was it time? Not to replace Leo, but to allow healing to take root. We browsed puppies online, shocked at the price tags. $1500? That wasn’t my style. I wanted soul, not status.

So, I turned to Craigslist — the same place where I had found Leo. And there he was. A tiny face with eyes that felt familiar. Different color, same spirit. I called the seller immediately. He was in Topeka — an hour away.

But when fate calls, I move.

🐶 Meeting Blue

He had seven puppies, all tumbling about, but one walked over to my shoes and sat. That was him. The one from the photo. That was the moment I knew — divine orchestration at work.

The litter was unplanned, a seasonal surprise. Only $100. It didn’t matter. I wasn’t buying a dog. I was meeting family.

I drove home with him in my arms, stopping to buy food, carrying him like a newborn. My heart — which had felt broken for weeks — began to stir with warmth again.

👦🏽 My Son and His New Best Friend

At home, my son instantly bonded with the puppy. Valentine, my older dog, was less than thrilled. But my son? He cuddled Blue, my son ate Oreos while Blue napped in his lap, and tucked him in each night.

Blue was tiny, only 7 weeks old. His eyes still shimmered with that baby-blue haze. My son — who barely spoke at the time — looked at him and said clearly, “Blue.”

That was it. He had a name. One he chose for himself, through the heart of a child.

🐾 Growing Into His Strength

We also had Bear, my mom’s little snorkie, who had become part of our pack. At first, Blue was smaller than Bear. But by 3 months? He’d outgrown him. By adulthood, he was 95 pounds — not bad for the “runt.”

He had the soul of a protector. That truth revealed itself clearly in April 2023.

One day, while walking through our neighborhood, a pit bull came charging toward us. It had escaped a nearby house, aggressive and unchecked. Without hesitation, Blue leapt between us and danger. He stood his ground, defending me and my son.

That moment changed everything.

He wasn’t just our pet. He was our guardian. A dog on a mission.

💥 Moody, Mighty, and Mine

Blue has his quirks. He’s moody. Hates car rides. Terrified of fireworks. He’s accidentally broken my finger, cracked my nose, and sliced my hand. He doesn’t mean to. He just doesn’t realize his own strength.

If you’ve ever loved a big dog, you know — sometimes love leaves bruises. But I wouldn’t trade a second of it.

Because Blue saved my boy. He did his job.

🎵 Why I Chose This Song:

"All for Love" by Rod Stewart
Listen on YouTube Music

Though written as a romantic ballad, this song captures what our pets give us — complete, unconditional, unwavering love. They follow us. Protect us. Sit beside us when the world gets heavy. When you share your life with a dog, you're not just gaining a companion. You're becoming a leader of a soul tribe.

Affirmation:

I am deeply loved and protected by the divine forces that surround me, including the four-legged angels sent to walk beside me.

📖 Bible Verse:

"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." — 1 Peter 4:8 (NIV)

🐕 In Honor of Blue

To all who’ve ever loved a dog — you know. They’re not just pets. They’re healers. Teachers. Family.

Some dogs come when you’re ready. Some arrive when your soul cries out for something you can’t name. Blue was the latter. He didn’t just walk into my life. He walked into my heart’s emptiest spaces and filled them with joy, noise, chaos — and healing.

Today, I celebrate him.

With a grateful heart and proud dog mom,
