Losing an Hour, Gaining a Season: Finding Grace in the Time Change
Losing an Hour, Gaining a Season: Finding Grace in the Time Change
By Angel, Founder of AMC Rise and Thrive
Hello beautiful souls,
There are certain moments throughout the year that quietly
remind us how quickly time moves. Some of those moments are joyful, some are
reflective, and others feel a little inconvenient.
Today happens to be one of those moments.
It’s that time again — daylight savings time.
The weekend when we adjust the clocks, shift our routines, and
lose one precious hour of sleep.
Now, I know there are people who truly enjoy this transition.
They love the longer evenings, the sunlight stretching a little farther into
the day, and the sense that warmer weather is on the horizon.
But if I’m being completely honest with you, I’ve always
preferred the fall time change.
Why?
Because in the fall, we gain an hour.
And gaining an hour of sleep feels like a gift from heaven.
Spring, however, asks us to give one back.
And if you’re anything like me, that loss of sleep is very
noticeable.
The Adjustment We Don’t Always Talk About
For some people, daylight savings time feels like a simple
inconvenience. Change the clocks, move on with life, and carry on as usual.
But for many of us, the adjustment is not quite that easy.
Our bodies operate on internal rhythms — natural cycles that
regulate sleep, energy, and alertness. When those rhythms suddenly shift, it
takes time for everything to recalibrate.
Personally, it takes me about a week before my body fully
adjusts.
During those days, mornings feel darker. Waking up feels
harder. And no matter how early I go to bed, my body still feels slightly off.
It’s almost like trying to start your day before your mind and
body are fully ready.
And I know I’m not the only one who experiences this.
Families notice it.
Kids notice it.
Even pets sometimes notice it.
Suddenly everyone’s internal clocks feel slightly misaligned.
But here’s the interesting thing about these seasonal shifts.
They remind us of something important.
Life is always moving.
Even when we resist it.
Even when we wish we could pause the clock for just a little
longer.
The Dual Nature of Change
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that most changes
carry both a bright side and a not-so-bright side.
Daylight savings time is a perfect example of this.
On one hand, we lose an hour of sleep.
And for someone who values rest as much as I do, that part is
not exactly exciting.
But on the other hand, something beautiful happens as well.
We gain longer days.
Sunlight begins to stretch further into the evening. The sky
stays bright just a little bit longer. And slowly, the world begins to shift
toward spring.
That shift matters more than we sometimes realize.
Because after the stillness of winter, the earth begins to
wake up again.
Trees start budding.
Flowers begin pushing their way through the soil.
Rain showers come and nourish the ground.
Birds return with their familiar songs.
And the air carries the quiet promise that life is beginning
again.
So while we may lose an hour of sleep, we gain something else
in return.
We gain a reminder that seasons change.
And with every new season comes new life.
Learning to Adjust When Life Shifts
The truth is, daylight savings time is a small reflection of
something we all experience throughout life.
Adjustment.
Life rarely stays the same for long.
Schedules change.
Responsibilities shift.
Children grow older.
Circumstances evolve.
And every time something shifts, we are asked to adjust our
rhythm.
Sometimes we adjust easily.
Other times it takes patience.
There are seasons when we feel like everything is aligned —
when our energy flows naturally and our routines feel comfortable.
But there are also seasons when we feel slightly out of sync.
Those seasons can feel frustrating.
We might feel tired. Overwhelmed. Or just slightly “off.”
But those moments do not mean something is wrong.
They simply mean we are transitioning.
Just like our bodies take time to adjust to the time change,
our hearts and minds take time to adjust to the shifts life brings.
And that adjustment period deserves grace.
You don’t have to be perfectly balanced every day.
Sometimes simply recognizing the transition is enough.
The Hidden Beauty of New Seasons
While losing an hour of sleep might feel inconvenient, the
bigger picture tells a different story.
Daylight savings time signals that spring is approaching.
And spring is one of the most powerful metaphors for renewal.
After months of cold, darkness, and stillness, the earth
begins to bloom again.
Nature reminds us that life moves in cycles.
There are seasons of rest.
Seasons of waiting.
Seasons of quiet growth happening beneath the surface.
And then, suddenly, there are seasons of awakening.
Spring carries a kind of spiritual symbolism that is hard to
ignore.
It reminds us that even after the coldest winters, life
returns.
Hope returns.
Color returns.
And sometimes the new season brings opportunities we couldn’t
see during the darker months.
This is why transitions — even small ones like daylight
savings time — can hold deeper meaning.
They gently whisper:
Change is coming.
And sometimes that change brings growth we didn’t even know we
needed.
Resetting More Than Just the Clocks
When daylight savings time arrives, most of us think about one
simple task.
Reset the clocks.
But maybe this moment can be an invitation to reset something
deeper as well.
A reset in our mindset.
A reset in our energy.
A reset in how we move through the coming season.
As the days grow longer and the world becomes brighter, it can
be a beautiful time to check in with ourselves.
What do you want this season to look like?
What habits would you like to nurture?
What thoughts would you like to release?
Spring offers an opportunity to refresh more than just our
schedules.
It invites us to refresh our spirits.
To open the windows.
To let fresh air into our homes and our hearts.
To make space for new possibilities.
Sometimes all it takes is a small shift — just like the
one-hour time change — to remind us that transformation is always possible.
Affirmations for Seasonal Transitions
Take a moment to breathe slowly and allow these affirmations
to settle into your heart:
• I welcome new seasons with openness and grace.
• My body and mind adjust naturally with time.
• Change creates space for growth and renewal.
• I honor my need for rest as well as my desire for progress.
• Every season of life carries its own blessings.
• God guides me through every transition with wisdom and peace.
Bible Verse
“There is a time for everything, and a season for
every activity under the heavens.”
— Ecclesiastes 3:1
This verse beautifully captures the rhythm of life.
There are seasons of activity.
Seasons of rest.
Seasons of growth.
And seasons of transition.
Each one has its purpose.
And each one moves us forward in ways we may not fully
understand at the time.
🎵 Song of
the Day
“Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles
This song feels like the perfect reflection of this seasonal
shift.
After the darker days of winter, the light begins to return —
slowly at first, but steadily.
The lyrics capture that quiet sense of hope that arrives when
we realize brighter days are ahead.
Just like the time change signals the coming of spring, this
song reminds us that warmth and light always find their way back into our
lives.
Sometimes we simply have to trust that the sun is on its way.
Final Thoughts
As we adjust our clocks this week and step into the longer
days ahead, remember that transitions are part of life’s rhythm.
Yes, we may lose an hour of sleep.
Yes, our bodies might take a few days to adjust.
But in return, we gain something beautiful.
Longer evenings.
Warmer air.
The quiet promise that the earth is waking up again.
So as the season shifts, allow yourself to shift with it.
Be patient with your body.
Be gentle with your routine.
And remember that every season — even the slightly
inconvenient ones — carries its own hidden gifts.
With you in every season of growth,
Angel 🤍
