Honoring Anniversaries: The Beauty of Remembering
Honoring Anniversaries: The Beauty of Remembering
By Angel, Founder of AMC Rise and Thrive
Hello beautiful soul 💛
This week feels extra tender for me — it’s my wedding
anniversary. Sixteen years. When I write that number, it’s almost as if the
years themselves sit beside me, whispering their memories. I see snapshots of
where we began, moments of triumph and heartbreak, the ways we’ve grown, and
the ways we’ve held on.
There’s something so sacred about anniversaries. They are more
than dates on a calendar — they are holy markers that tell us, This
mattered. This still matters.
Whether it’s the day you made a promise, took a leap of faith,
survived something that could have broken you, or opened your heart to love
again, anniversaries are invitations to pause. They let us honor our stories
with reverence instead of rushing past them.
They remind us that time is not just measured in clocks and
calendars but in meaning — in the moments that shaped us, the lessons that
remade us, and the love that carried us.
Why Anniversaries Matter
Our world often urges us to keep moving forward — to chase the
next goal, the next season, the next version of ourselves. But anniversaries
ask something gentler of us: they invite us to stop, breathe, and remember.
✨ They
honor commitment. Whether it’s a marriage, a business, a creative dream, or
a personal promise you made to yourself, anniversaries celebrate the beauty of
showing up again and again, even when it wasn’t easy.
✨ They
celebrate resilience. Life throws us storms, heartbreaks, and detours. To
stand on the other side of a year, a decade, or a lifetime and say, I am
still here, is no small thing. Anniversaries remind us of the strength we
carried when we thought we couldn’t take another step.
✨ They
keep gratitude alive. When we pause to remember, we deepen our appreciation
for the people, the moments, and even the challenges that shaped us. Gratitude
blooms when we make space to say, This mattered. This still matters.
✨ They
mark transformation. Every year that passes carries change with it. We are
not who we once were. Anniversaries trace the arc of our becoming — they help
us see the wisdom, compassion, and faith we’ve gained along the way.
When we skip over these moments, we risk losing perspective.
Remembering grounds us. It pulls our story into focus and reminds us that we
are walking a much bigger, more meaningful journey than we sometimes realize.
Personal Reflection: Sixteen Years of Marriage
For me, this anniversary is more than a number — it is a
tapestry of moments woven together by love, grace, and choice.
Sixteen years of marriage means seasons of joy and seasons of
perseverance. It means holding each other through grief, celebrating each
other’s wins, and learning that love is not just a feeling but a daily
practice.
It means learning patience, forgiving quickly, laughing until
we cry, and sitting quietly side by side when words aren’t enough.
It means looking back at the starry-eyed couple we once were
and smiling at how much we didn’t know — and how much we’ve grown since then.
That’s the gift of anniversaries. They give us a chance to honor where we
started, to celebrate who we are now, and to hold hope for what is still to
come.
Beyond Marriage: Every Accomplishment Deserves
Remembrance
Anniversaries aren’t just about love stories — they’re about
life stories.
Think about the day you started your business, the day you
walked across a graduation stage, the day you decided to get healthy, the day
you chose to break a cycle that ran in your family for generations.
What about the day you decided to forgive? Or the day you gave
yourself permission to rest?
Even grief anniversaries matter. They remind us of love that
shaped us, even if that love now lives in memory. They give us space to say, I
still miss you, or I’m still healing.
Every one of these moments deserves to be remembered because
they are part of the fabric of who you are.
When you recognize them, you honor your soul’s journey. You
give yourself credit for how far you’ve come.
I encourage you to mark them in ways that feel sacred to you:
📝 Write
them down. Keep a journal of your milestones so you can revisit them each
year.
🕯️ Light
a candle. Let its flame be a prayer of gratitude or remembrance.
🙏 Whisper
a prayer. Thank God for the strength, grace, or guidance that brought you
through.
🎂 Celebrate
with joy. Bake a cake, plan a dinner, or gather friends to share the
memory.
🎨 Create
something. Paint, write, or craft something symbolic to honor the day.
No gesture is too small. What matters is that you choose to
remember.
A Spiritual Lens
From a spiritual perspective, anniversaries are like altars of
remembrance — holy ground where heaven meets earth.
In Scripture, we see this again and again. After God delivered
His people or performed a miracle, they would build an altar — a physical
marker that said, We won’t forget what happened here.
“Remember the wonders He has done, His miracles,
and the judgments He pronounced.”
— 1 Chronicles 16:12 (NIV)
Your anniversaries can become your modern-day altars. They are
markers of God’s faithfulness, your perseverance, and the love that wove you
through the hard and beautiful moments of your life.
Every time you honor them, you remind your spirit that you are
part of a bigger story — one filled with grace, transformation, and divine
fingerprints.
A Gentle Invitation
So, I leave you with this invitation:
What dates in your life deserve to be honored?
What victories deserve celebration?
What losses deserve space for remembrance?
And perhaps most importantly — how might you grow in gratitude
if you slowed down long enough to honor them?
Every anniversary, no matter how ordinary it seems, is an
opportunity to pause, breathe, and say, Thank You.
It is a way to celebrate not just what happened, but the
person you became because of it.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you know how much I love
Qveen Herby’s music. She has a way of putting words to exactly how I feel
sometimes — bold, unapologetic, and full of self-respect.
This song is a playful but powerful reminder that my love is
sacred, that my presence is a gift, and that what I bring to the table deserves
to be cherished.
“You know I'm gifted when it comes to havin' loyalty
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
But don't get it twisted, I don't take no [nonsense] from nobody
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)”
Closing Blessing
To everyone marking anniversaries this season — whether of
love, loss, growth, or transformation — may you feel the beauty of remembering.
May you look back with compassion, stand in the present with
gratitude, and step into the future with hope.
🌿 Affirmation:
I honor the sacred dates in my life as reminders of love, growth, and divine
faithfulness. My story is worth remembering, and I celebrate the person I am
becoming.
With love and light,
Angel ✨
