Speak Life: The Power of the Words We Choose
Speak Life: The Power of the Words We Choose

Hello beautiful soul π
Have you ever had a song find its way into your spirit before
your feet even touched the ground?
For me, it’s often “Speak Life” by TobyMac. Sometimes
without warning, I’ll wake up with that melody playing in my head like a
morning mantra — gentle, insistent, almost like God whispering, “Remember
the power I’ve placed in your voice.”
That song has been an anchor in my life, a reminder of
something I’ve learned the hard way: our words carry weight. They are
not just sounds leaving our lips; they are seeds. Every sentence, every phrase,
every whisper has the potential to grow something — life or death, healing or
harm, light or shadow.
I’ve always known God placed words inside me as a gift. I can
weave them in ways that reach the heart — words that connect, comfort, uplift,
or open the door to healing. But I’ll be honest with you: I didn’t always use
that gift well.
There was a time when my voice was more like a weapon than a
balm. I could cut someone down with a sharp phrase and sleep just fine at
night. My motto was, “I’m just telling the truth. If it hurts, that’s on
you.” I thought bluntness was strength, that honesty without compassion was
noble.
But truth without love can crush a soul.
And while I still believe truth is sacred, I’ve come to
understand there’s a better way to carry it. A gentler way. A way that heals
rather than harms.
A way that brings light instead of multiplying
pain.

Choosing Light Over Darkness
Let’s be real: the world has more than enough darkness
already. We see it everywhere — hate, division, judgment, bitterness. All of it
circulates like smoke in the air, choking out joy. And every time we add
careless or cruel words, we add more fuel to that fire.
One day, I decided I didn’t want to contribute to that storm
anymore. I was tired of pouring gasoline where there was already smoke. Tired
of speaking in ways that left me guilty later. Tired of the dissonance between
what I believed and what I allowed to pass through my lips.
So, I made a choice.
A choice to pause.
A choice to hold my tongue when my ego wanted to lash out.
A choice to ask myself:
✨ “Will
these words build up or tear down?”
It’s not always easy. In fact, sometimes the hardest thing is
to stay silent when everything in you wants to prove a point. But silence, too,
has its wisdom.
Here’s what I’ve learned: silence doesn’t mean you’re
broken or weak. Sometimes silence is the most powerful answer, the medicine
the moment requires. When you can’t find words that bring light, your presence
alone can speak volumes.
And if you’ve been given the gift of speaking, if you know
your voice can move people — then use it as a lantern, not a hammer. Use it to
breathe life.
π¬ The
Power of What We Speak
We’ve all seen the way words land.
Think about these moments:
- Someone’s
whole face lighting up because of a simple compliment.
- A
stranger’s eyes welling with tears after hearing “You’re not alone.”
- A
friend daring to believe in themselves because of something you reminded
them of.
And then there’s the other side:
- A
child shrinking after a harsh comment.
- A
relationship fracturing under words that can’t be taken back.
- A
soul dimming because judgment cut deeper than anyone realized.
We’ve all been both — the giver of light and the bearer of
wounds. We’ve seen how words can carry people or crush them.
But here’s the good news: we always have the chance to
choose differently.
Every sunrise gives us another opportunity to speak healing
instead of harm. Every conversation is a chance to sow encouragement instead of
criticism. Every breath we take is another moment to decide: Am I pouring
life or draining it?
π± Speak
Life Over Yourself
Now let’s shift this inward. Because speaking life isn’t only
about what we say to others — it’s about what we say to ourselves.
If we’re honest, sometimes the cruelest words we’ll ever hear
don’t come from the outside. They come from the mirror.
How many times have you called yourself “not enough”?
How often have you replayed every mistake, every flaw, every stumble — as if
they define you?
How often do you speak over yourself words that you would never dare say to
someone you love?
Friend, that’s not God’s voice.
He never calls you worthless. He never whispers shame. He
never sows doubt into your identity. That’s the echo of a world trying to make
you forget who you really are.
So speak differently.
- Speak
life over your dreams.
- Speak
life over your healing.
- Speak
life over your future.
- Speak
life over the little child inside you who still needs reassurance.
Because if you don’t, the world will try to speak something
else into you: fear, doubt, despair. And you were never meant to carry that.
It may feel strange at first, but keep going. Keep blessing
yourself with your own voice until your soul starts to believe it again.
π Bible
Verse of the Day
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and
those who love it will eat its fruit.”
— Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)
This verse always stops me in my tracks. The tongue has power.
That means my words aren’t neutral — they are seeds. What I speak, I will
eventually eat. So the question becomes: What harvest am I planting with my
speech?

This song is more than music — it’s a reminder. When you feel
tempted to criticize, complain, or cut down, let this melody guide you back to
light. Let it remind you that your words have power. That they can lift someone
out of darkness — maybe even yourself.
π§π½♀️ Reflective Soul Prompt
Take a breath and ask yourself:
- Have
my words ever cut someone deep?
- Have
I seen them lift someone up?
- What
will I choose to speak into existence today?
Write it down. Let it move from your head to your heart to
your hands.
✨ You Are
the Ripple
Here’s what I hope you carry away, dear one:
Every word you speak is energy. It doesn’t vanish into thin
air; it circles back. Sometimes you’ll see it come around, sometimes you won’t.
But it always matters.
So, speak with intention. Speak with gentleness. Speak in ways
that echo heaven more than earth.
And when in doubt… speak life.
Your voice matters.
Your words matter.
Use them to heal. πΏ
