Rest: A Sacred Gift to Body, Mind, and Spirit
Rest: A Sacred Gift to Body, Mind, and Spirit
By Angel, Founder of AMC Rise and Thrive
Hello beautiful soul 🌿✨
First, a gentle confession: I’m usually someone who posts here
faithfully by midnight. I love showing up for you with intention, pouring out
words that I pray bring light and encouragement. But this time was different.
This post is late—not because I didn’t care or forgot, but because my body
finally said enough.
I hit a wall I could no longer climb. Sleep became less of an
option and more of a mandate. So, I surrendered. I drifted into a five-hour nap
during the day, only to return to bed that night and sleep another thirteen
hours straight. It wasn’t in my plan—but it was exactly what I needed.
Maybe you’ve been there too: when you’ve poured yourself out
completely, stretched so thin you feel frayed at the edges, and suddenly
realize—your body is no longer asking for rest. It’s demanding it.
And here’s the truth: our bodies always know. Sometimes the
message is a whisper, easy to dismiss in the rush of productivity. Other times,
it’s a roar so loud we can’t keep going until we finally stop and listen.
The Spiritual Side of Rest
Rest is more than sleep. It is holy. It is divine rhythm.
After six days of creation, God Himself rested. Not because He
was tired, but because He was establishing balance—work and stillness, movement
and pause. Rest was never about weakness; it was always about wholeness.
In stillness, our souls recalibrate. In silence, our spirits
remember who we are and whose we are. When we allow ourselves to rest, we are
not “falling behind”—we are aligning with divine timing.
Rest is also trust. Every time we set aside the lists, the
deadlines, and the constant push to do more, we declare: I trust the world
will keep spinning. I trust God will provide. I trust I don’t have to hold
everything together alone.
That shift—from striving to surrender—is where the soul
breathes again.
Listening to the Body’s Wisdom
Exhaustion is not failure. It’s invitation.
So often, we push past our limits because we’ve absorbed the
lie that productivity equals worth. If we can just do more, achieve more, be
more—maybe then we’ll be enough.
But we are not machines. We are flesh and spirit, heart and
bone, joy and fragility. And when we ignore the signals, we end up paying for
it—through burnout, illness, or sheer depletion.
Maybe you’ve noticed it too:
- Your
eyelids grow heavy though you’re still trying to focus.
- Your
patience thins, and you snap more easily.
- Your
joy dims, replaced by irritability.
- Your
body aches in ways caffeine can’t fix.
These aren’t inconveniences. They’re alarms. And when we honor
them, we begin to heal.
Rest as Resistance and Renewal
In a culture that glorifies hustle, rest becomes a radical act
of faith.
Everywhere we look, the message is loud: do more, be more,
grind harder. Productivity is idolized while rest is treated like weakness.
But what if rest is the very thing that keeps us alive, vibrant, and aligned?
When we choose rest, we resist the lie that our worth is
measured by endless doing. We affirm that presence matters more than
performance. Soul matters more than schedule.
Rest doesn’t take away from your purpose—it strengthens you
for it.
After my long sleep, I woke lighter. My mind felt clearer, my
body softer, my spirit grounded again. Deep within, I heard the whisper: See?
This is what you needed. This is what sustains you.
Rest replenishes the body, but it also renews the soul.
The Power of Exodus 33:14
The verse that carried me through this reflection is Exodus
33:14:
“The Lord replied, ‘My Presence will go with you,
and I will give you rest.’”
What a promise. Rest here is not only about sleep—it’s about
the peace that comes when we know we are not walking alone.
When Moses was leading the Israelites through the wilderness,
he was weary in body and spirit. And in response, God didn’t promise an easier
road or fewer battles. He promised His presence.
That’s the heart of true rest. Not perfect circumstances, not
a completed checklist, but divine companionship.
When you feel worn thin, remember: you don’t have to
manufacture strength or figure it all out. Rest is already offered in God’s
nearness. His presence is enough.
Song of the Day 🎶
The song I’m carrying with me today is “Breathe” by
Telepopmusik feat. Angel McCluskey. It’s not new—it takes me back years—but
it still feels timeless. Each time I hear it, I’m reminded: every breath we
take is grace.
The chorus echoes like a mantra: “Just breathe.”
It’s simple, but in our complicated lives, that reminder is
revolutionary. Breathing slows us down. It draws us into the present moment. It
connects us to the rhythm of life and the God who first breathed life into dust
and called it human.
For me, this song is a gentle invitation: another day has
come, another chance to begin again. We are not bound by yesterday’s
exhaustion, failures, or striving. Each inhale is renewal. Each exhale is
release.
So, when you feel overwhelmed, when exhaustion presses in,
pause and breathe. Let the act remind you: you are alive, you are sustained,
you are loved—and you don’t have to rush.
A Gentle Reminder for You
If you are weary right now, let this sink in: it is okay to
rest. You don’t need to earn it. You don’t need to explain it. And you
certainly don’t need to feel guilty for it.
Rest is not laziness—it is love. Love for your body. Love for
your spirit. Love for the sacred journey you’re on.
Take the nap. Step away for a while. Close your eyes. Let
yourself be still. The world won’t fall apart if you stop. And maybe—just
maybe—you’ll wake to a world that looks brighter, because you are
brighter.
Affirmation
✨ I
honor my body’s wisdom. Rest is my divine right and sacred gift. In stillness,
I am renewed.
Closing
Not everyone can keep running on empty. There’s no shame in
admitting you need rest. Sometimes things must be put on hold.
If you’re stubborn or busy—like me—you may resist the signals
until exhaustion takes over. But eventually, you’ll have no choice but to
listen.
So, from one stubborn soul to another: listen sooner. Choose
rest before it chooses you.
With love and grace,
