Remembering September 11: Honoring the Past, Holding Hope for the Future
Remembering September 11: Honoring the Past, Holding Hope for the Future
By Angel, Founder of AMC Rise and Thrive
Hello beautiful soul 🕊️
As we approach the anniversary of September 11, my heart grows
quiet. For those of you who are old enough to remember that day, you know that
it’s not just another date on the calendar — it’s a day that changed us.
I remember exactly where I was when it happened. I was still
asleep when the first plane hit, and then I got the call: “You need to turn
on the TV.” I stumbled to the living room, turned it on, and there it was —
something my mind couldn’t fully grasp at first. The news anchors were speaking
with urgency, the images flashing across the screen were almost too much to
take in.
And then the second plane hit.
In that moment, we knew this was no accident. Something
unthinkable was unfolding, and the whole country seemed to hold its breath
together.
A Day That Changed Everything
September 11, 2001, was a tragedy that shook not only the
United States but the entire world. It is not something you simply “get past.”
The images, the fear, the grief — they stay with you. For many, the pain is
still tender, especially for those who lost loved ones that day or in the
months and years that followed.
But alongside the heartbreak, there was something else. There
was a sense of unity that I have rarely felt since. People reached out to one
another. Strangers became helpers, neighbors became family. Churches and
community centers filled. For a brief moment, we remembered that we belonged to
one another.
Why We Remember
Remembering is not just about reliving pain. It’s about
honoring those who were lost and choosing to keep their memory alive. It’s
about learning from what happened so that we can keep building a world where
hate does not get the final say.
When we remember, we are saying: We see you. We have not
forgotten. Your life mattered.
And perhaps most importantly, we are saying: We will do our
part to keep love stronger than fear, stronger than division, stronger than
violence.
Song of the Day 🎶
Today’s song of the day is “Where Were You (When the World
Stopped Turning)” by Alan Jackson. This song captures the emotions so many
of us felt on that day — the shock, the sorrow, the prayers, and the yearning
for healing. Music has a way of putting words to what our hearts can’t quite
say, and this song does just that.
A Prayer for Unity
My prayer is simple:
That we would continue to remember, not to stay trapped in the
pain, but to keep our hearts open.
That we would tell the next generation not only about the tragedy, but also
about the resilience, the courage, and the way people came together.
That we would honor those lost by living lives of kindness, compassion, and
faith.
Bible Verse of the Day
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” – Matthew 5:4
(NIV)
Affirmation
🌿 I
choose to honor the past, hold space for healing, and keep hope alive for a
more united tomorrow.
Closing Reflection
Twenty-four years later, the pain of September 11 still
ripples through us, but so does the reminder of how strong we can be when we
stand together. May we keep choosing to remember — not just the tragedy, but
the way we showed up for one another in its wake.
May we keep choosing love over hate, unity over division, and
compassion over indifference.
With grace and light,
Angel ✨
